    Expectations, Inclusion, & Sportsmanship Reminders

    Parents,

Recently, concerns have been brought to our attention regarding interactions and behaviors among some swimmers that do not reflect the standards of the coaches or the  Hurricane program. As coaches, we feel it is important to address this clearly and directly.

The Winchester Hurricanes are built on respect, teamwork, inclusion, and sportsmanship. Every swimmer on our team deserves to feel safe, supported, valued, and included, regardless of ability level, personality, background, appearance, or personal challenges.

It is important to remember that not every struggle is visible. Some athletes may face physical, emotional, developmental, or personal challenges that others may not see or fully understand. Because of this, kindness, empathy, and compassion must always be part of how we treat one another.

We are more than just teammates, we are a swim family. That means encouraging each other, lifting each other up, and creating a positive environment where every athlete has the opportunity to grow and succeed.

These expectations also apply when interacting with athletes from other teams. When we attend meets, we represent our team, community, and families both in and out of the water. Poor sportsmanship, negative comments, exclusionary behavior, teasing, or disrespect toward others will not be tolerated.

We ask all parents to take time to speak with their swimmers about inclusion, accountability, empathy, and respectful behavior. Success is not measured only by times and results, but also by character and how we treat the people around us.

As coaches and parents, we all play an important role in shaping the culture of our program. Thank you for your continued support in helping us build an environment that reflects the values of respect, integrity, compassion, and teamwork.

    Thank you,

Coach Kris, Coach DJ, Coach Selah, Coach Lydia & Hurricane Board of Directors
